CUICU Soft & Shiny Eye Shadow NO.C3108-04 Review + Swatches By beauty-junkie

Cheap eye shadow palettes are always a gamble. Often, you’ll get one or two okay shades and a couple of chalky colours that have almost no opacity. At $7.07 USD for five shades, I was understandably sceptical about this metallic themed CUICU Soft & Shiny Eye Shadow (NO.C3108-04) palette. However, just like the CUICU Flashing Diamond eye shadow I reviewed last week, this palette surprised me…

WHAT IS IT?

The Soft & Shiny Eye Shadow palette is another offering from the mysterious Asian brand, CUICU.

The website for this brand is defunct, making it difficult to find out more about the company.While the CUICU Flashing Diamond eye shadow was manufactured in China and had packaging written in Chinese, English and Korean, this palette was formulated in Korea and lacks any Chinese characters. So, I’m going to speculate that CUICU is a Korean brand.

The palette comes with five different shades, most of which have a metallic, shimmery finish. For a budget brand, the packaging is actually quite classy. It reminds me of some of the Kanebo KATE eye shadow palettes.

Those of you who apply their make up on the go will be pleased to find that this palette comes with two sponge applicators and a mirror for touch ups. However, the both ends of the applicators are all for eye shadow, which no thinner tips for eye liner.

HOW DID IT PERFORM?

Palettes like this often have slightly inconsistent performance. Let’s take a quick look at the individual eye shadows.

Top Left: This shade is a frosty brownish grey that almost runs olive in certain lights. Impressive pigmentation, soft texture.

Top Center: This shade looks slightly out of place in the palette, because it’s a much warmer colour. It’s a shimmery copper hue. Impressive pigmentation, some fall out.

Middle: This shade is a beautiful shimmery white. It has great colour pay off, but it’s the softest shade of all, so be sure to use a light hand was swatching it. Some fall out.

Right: This shade is a frosty medium brown that almost looks like a dull gold in certain lights. Impressive pigmentation, slightly soft texture.

Bottom Left: This shade is a light matte brown with flecks of gold glitter. Unfortunately, it has the least colour pay off of all the shades. It’s also the least soft.

(White, matte brown, medium brown with hint of gold, brown with olive undertones, copper – swatched on bare skin)

The colours blend easily without becoming muddy and apply well, albeit with a bit of fall out from the softer colours. Sadly, the lack of a black eye shadow or a less frosty white means it’s not 100% travel friendly. I don’t like to highlight with a shimmery colour as it looks kind of weird – check it out in the picture below.

When used on top of my NYX Jumbo pencil in Milk, these eye shadows stay in place for upwards of eight hours without creasing or fading significantly.

Eye make up tutorial: Mild Midnight Smokey Eyes by myfatpocket

I think this is one of my first ever eye make up tutorial! Doing a classic look – smokey eyes, but a mild one. Mine’s dark purple, hence I’m calling it midnight!

What you’ll need:

• Circle lenses (optional)
• Eyeshadow – with three different shades of the same color
• Eyeliner
• Falsies/ Mascara (I highly recommend falsies.)

What I used: 

• Puffy three tone grey lenses from uniqso
• Cuicu eyeshadow from kkcenterhk
• Eyeliner from K-palette
• Falsies from Uniqso

This is the final look, but the photo is not very obvious! (Cuicu eyeshadow in this picture)

And let’s start now!
Here are the steps to do the eye shadow! I’ve also included the pictures without the dotted lines so that you can see clearly how the make up should look like at each step. (Step-by-step explanation below)

1) Put on circle lens + foundation + concealor + powder + primer (I don’t use primer personally)
2) Color your eye socket with the lightest color
3) Color the outer half of your eye socket with the second darkest color
4) This is the tricky part, color outside your eye socket in the darkest color. Make it blend into a semicircle with all the other eyeshadows. The furthest you should go is not more than 1cm away from you eyes. This is to elongate your eyes and make your eyes look more defined. Please skip this step if you are using mascara instead of falsies.
5) Color your double eyelids with the same darkest color. This is to give more “eyeliner” effect and to make your eye bigger.
6) Color the outer lower corner of your eyes in the lightest color to brighten up your eyes. Do it from the center of your eyes and and extend to blend with the furthest upper eye shadow.
Now that you’re done with the eye shadow, its time to do the eyeliner!

Line your eyeliner along your upper lashes. It doesn’t have to be very fine or very thick, just do whatever you’re good at, the falsies will most likely cover it later anyway. When you reach the outer corner of your eyes, continue extending the line straight down till you reach the furthest your eyeshadow is, probably about 0.5-1cm away from your eyes. Do not wing the eyeliner! If you’re using mascara, do not extend your eyeliner~
Final step! Many people will find this difficult, but a pair of falsies really makes quite a lot of difference!!

If you’re using a new pair of falsies, do remember to trim it because they are too long for normal eyes most of the time. I mean trimming the lash bone and not the lashes itself! However, don’t trim it to the exact length of your eyes, leave a 0.5cm allowance at least so that it can make your eyes look longer ^^
Apply lash glue to the falsies and wait about 10-20 seconds for the glue to become tacky before pasting them. It’d be best to stick your falsies as close to your natural lashes as possible, but you’re safe to stick them anywhere within the eyeliner that you’ve drawn if you’re still learning how to do it properly.
Please do not paste your falsies right from the inner corner of your eye, I don’t think it’d be possible to paste them so close anyway, but if you anage to somehow, you’ll feel super comfortable. I usually paste them at least 0.5cm from the inner corners of my eyes and you should do that too!

Cuicu eyeshadow review by myfatpocket

kkcenterhk is an online make up store based in Hong Kong! They’ve sent me some make up to try so this is the first item that I’ve tried!

Name: Resplendent 06 (I googled for the definition of resplendent and it means – Splendid or dazzling in appearance; brilliant.)
Formulated in: Korea
Expires: 24 months after opening
Cost: USD 7.07

It has 5 colors which are all shimmery..

A small mirror at the inside of the lid.. I don’t do touch ups for eye shadows but this is good for people who do touch ups!

And two round sponge tip applicators, more than enough! However, I’d prefer a mixture of sharp sponge tip applicators or even mini brushes, rather than all 4 tips being the same.. But this is a small problem, I can replace the applicators myself!

Here are the swatches, I took photo of them in bright (centre) and normal (right) lighting because they are shimmery and tend to look different under different lighting.

I like this eye shadow! This palette, having 5 light to dark colors (white, pink, purple, dark purple, and blackish purple), allows us to create many looks! All the colors are quite pigmented. Especially like it because they have white in the palette which is super useful as we can use on the tear duct area, lower lash area, highlight our brows and other parts of the face. Only color E is kind of weird, I expected it to be the strongest color and it ended up being the least pigmented and even lighter than color D.
Here are 2 looks which I’ve created with this palette, you might find the pictures familiar because I used this eyeshadow for my previous 2 lens review!

REVIEW : CUICU SOFT & SHINY EYESHADOW NO.C3108-04 [KKCENTERHK] by theminiaturedollmaze

I was really surprised when I got my package from KKCENTERHK, I waited for about a month for this and thought that it would never be delivered at my doorstep. But then, it came! I was really happy and excited to try what they've given me for review. If you're following me on my Instagram account you might already know the items they sent me. But first let me review this one for you.

Brown palettes are really my favorite not just because it's wearable, but also it looks natural! My eyes always get attracted to bright colorful eye shadows but they tend to be left out among the earthly shades that I always prefer. But, as a make-up addict I love experimenting with colorful shades most especially the neon ones (BYS Neon Palette review soon) .!! So as I was telling you, you will never go wrong with different shades of brown even if you mix it together. Whether you use it for your wedding, your pictorial or any event, this palette is a must-have! This has beautiful shades of brown that I really fell in-love with. Look at my swatch below :

It's very pigmented and shiny except the light brown shade in the middle which is matte. What I just don't like from this palette is the copper one. But all in all, it's perfect!

Review: CUICU Eyeshadow Palette By rocaille-writes

I'd always been curious about Asian make-up with its cute designs and great formulations, but too confused really to venture out and actually get something. So when I was given the opportunity to review the CUICU Soft & Shiny Eyeshadow Palette ($6.30), I thought it'd be somewhat of a foothold for me in the great world of Asian cosmetics and I'd be able to experience what the fuss is all about.

CUICU Eyeshadow Palette is definitely a well-designed, fun neutral palette. The plastic packaging feels very sturdy, houses a small mirror inside (quite like the Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten compacts), two sponge-tip applicators and, of course, 5 eyeshadows pressed in the diamond shape. How cute!

All shades are neutral and shimmery, with the exception of the bottom shade (it seems to have some gold sparkles running through it but swatches matte). And yes, true to their name, the eyeshadows are 'soft & shiny'. They're smooth, pigmented and quite long-lasting. No complaints on the formula front from me!

Well, ok, my only complaint would be the shade selection. Firstly, I really wish there were more matte eyeshadows in the palette, and secondly, that copper really seems quite out of place, even though the shadow itself is beautiful. I'm also not a huge fan of the pearly white highlight, I was hoping for something more subtle... Oh yes, I am nit-picking now.

See how nicely they swatch? My favorites are actually the deep olive green (similar to Urban Decay Darkhorse), the antique gold (Wet'n'Wild Dancing in the Clouds trio top shade) and the mid-tone matte brown, for which I couldn't find a dupe in my collection but kind of reminds me of caffe latte.

Here's an eye look I attempted using all five shades in the palette. While I'm not particularly happy with how this one turned out, it demonstrates how saturated and smooth the colors are. I'm actually so impressed with the quality of this little palette that I think I need to investigate Asian make-up further. What are your favorite Asian brands?
